ENERGY CONSUMPTION & ECONOMIC GROWTH: EVIDENCE ON 15 AFRICAN COUNTRIES 1980-2012

This research investigates the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in 15 African countries from 1980 to 2012 using Granger causality tests. The study examines both total energy consumption and specific energy types including oil, electricity, and natural gas. Results reveal varying causal patterns across countries, with unidirectional causality from energy to GDP in some nations and bidirectional or neutral relationships in others. The findings suggest electricity has the strongest impact on economic growth among the energy types analyzed.
